A rooftop replacement done right
Energy efficiency is a top priority at Kolostat. In this project, our technician Vincent Gauthier led the replacement of a rooftop HVAC unit at Toyo Tire Canada Inc. in Saint-Laurent. The unit serves the building's office space, and the replacement will deliver a meaningful energy-efficiency improvement.
The constraint: airport proximity
The Saint-Laurent site sits close to Montréal–Trudeau International Airport. Crane lifts over a rooftop near an active runway require precise coordination with airport operations. The morning of the lift was spent staging the equipment and waiting for clearance from airport authorities — once the window opened, the team executed the swap in a tight, well-rehearsed sequence.
This kind of constraint is common in industrial Montréal — airport, rail, power-line, and hospital corridors all create lift windows that have to be earned, not assumed. Planning around them is part of the job.
Why projects like this matter
Energy efficiency on commercial and industrial rooftops adds up. Single-unit replacements like this one are unglamorous on paper, but they're how the operating-carbon profile of Quebec's industrial real estate actually gets reduced — site by site, unit by unit, year over year.
