Where commercial heating connects upward

Heating rarely lives alone. It is one trade inside a broader design-build or maintenance scope — and it is the trade most often touched by decarbonization and grant work.

  • Commercial HVAC design-build

When heating is part of a full mechanical scope — boilers, hydronics, AHUs, controls, commissioning — under one contract. Heating sits inside the broader design-build delivery.

  • Commercial HVAC preventive maintenance

Maintenance contracts cover the heating scope — in-depth inspections, regular adjustments, and rigorous monitoring on the cadence that fits your asset mix. The right home when heating is part of a broader maintenance scope rather than a one-off intervention.

  • Commercial heat pump retrofit

When the right path is electrification — aerothermal, geothermal, air-to-water, or hybrid (dual-fuel) — retaining the existing boiler as cold-snap back-up. Heating costs reduced over the long term, with grant capture stacked in.

  • HVAC controls optimization

Sequence-of-operations tuning for the heating plant — the layer that turns a well-installed boiler plant into a well-running one.

  • Grants & financing — Énergir, ÉcoPerformance, Hydro-Québec

Boiler replacement, burner retrofits, and heating electrification are eligible measures across multiple Quebec programs. Our Energy division files the dossier so the project is designed around grant capture, not after.

How we work

Four steps from first call to monitored performance

  1. Assess existing system

Senior technician or engineer walks the heating plant, distribution, and controls. We document the equipment list, age, operating state, and the operational risk if it fails.

  2. Engineering proposal

Replacement, retrofit, or service. We model the options — including heat pump integration where the math supports it — and price each with full transparency on cost and grant eligibility.

  3. Install or service

Execution by our in-house team — engineers, designers, draftsmen, control technicians, project managers, and millwrights. Service calls and full installs run through the same delivery org.

  4. Commission & monitor

Commissioning, controls calibration, and (where applicable) BMS / WebCTRL® monitoring with proactive alerts. A preventive maintenance program is offered to extend the life of the equipment from day one.

Commercial heating FAQ

What property and facility teams ask before they engage

  • What fuel types do you work with for commercial heating?

Natural gas (high-efficiency and condensing boilers, burner retrofits), electric (resistance and heat pump), and dual-energy / hybrid configurations where a heat pump is the primary heat source and the existing gas plant is retained for cold-snap back-up. We are technology-neutral — the right fuel mix comes out of the engineering proposal, not the catalog.

  • Are there grants for boiler replacement and burner retrofits?

Yes. Énergir runs efficiency incentives that include burner and boiler replacement; ÉcoPerformance funds up to 75% of eligible project cost for GHG-reduction measures; Hydro-Québec adds rebates on the electrification side. Kolostat's Energy division files the analysis and implementation components so the project is designed around grant capture. See our Énergir rebate page for the specifics.

  • Do you handle service-only work, or only full replacements?

Both. Service calls, planned repairs, and preventive maintenance contracts run through the same delivery org as full boiler-plant replacements. Most clients start with one and grow into the other — a service call diagnoses a plant problem, an engineering proposal scopes the replacement, and a maintenance contract keeps the new plant running.

  • Can we keep the existing boiler as back-up to a heat pump?

Yes — that is the hybrid (dual-fuel) configuration. The heat pump becomes the primary heat source, the existing boiler is retained for cold-snap back-up, and the controls automate the switchover at the marginal-cost crossover. This is the configuration the Énergir + Hydro-Québec + TEQ dual-energy program is designed to finance — historically, up to 80% of the project surcharge for qualifying conversions, subject to current program rules.

  • How fast can you respond to a heating outage in winter?

One dispatch number: 514-333-7333, option 1, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A fleet of 25+ service trucks covers heating across Greater Montréal and the GTA. Contract clients route ahead of one-off calls. Specific response targets are defined per contract based on building criticality and geography.
