INDUSTRIAL

Industrial mechanical systems that don't stop your line

Plant managers and operations directors trust us with the systems whose failure would halt production — across manufacturing, processing, food, pharma, and indoor agriculture.

What we do for industrial sites

Built for uptime, regulated environments, and grant capture

Six things plant managers, operations directors and VPs of engineering routinely hand to Kolostat — engineered around the constraints of food, pharma, manufacturing and indoor agriculture.

  1. Process heating, cooling, and dehumidification

Thermal systems sized around your process loads, not catalog defaults — engineered to keep production tolerances inside spec without disrupting the line.

  2. Heat recovery between processes and buildings

Industrial waste heat usually leaves the building. We re-route it — to make-up air, domestic hot water, an adjacent process, or a neighbouring building on the same site.

  3. Industrial ventilation and contaminant control

Make-up air, exhaust, and contaminant capture engineered around the production environment — paired with controls that prove compliance with your air-quality requirements.

  4. Specialized fluid networks

Hot water, chilled water, steam, gas and glycol networks installed for industrial, commercial and institutional clients — engineered for the pressure class and the process.

  5. 24/7 preventive maintenance and dispatch

Preventive maintenance contracts for plant directors who cannot afford surprises, backed by 25+ service trucks dispatched 24/7 across Greater Montréal and the GTA.

  6. Grant capture for industrial decarbonization

ÉcoPerformance, Énergir, Hydro-Québec and federal programs — we file the analysis and implementation dossiers, optimize the project for grant capture, and report on outcomes.

Piping competency

Award-winning industrial piping systems

Our specialized piping team has designed and installed award-winning mechanical systems that have saved clients millions of dollars in energy consumption — engineered around the full mechanical scope including piping, refrigeration and tinsmithing.

  • Hot water, chilled water, steam, gas and glycol networks
  • Tailored to industrial, commercial and institutional pressure classes
  • Excess-heat strategy applied where the mechanical system allows it
  • Low-flow sanitary expertise for water-responsible installations

Indoor farming case

Tight climate control for indoor agriculture

Indoor farming sites demand rigorous management of temperature, humidity and CO₂ to optimize yields. We pair that precision with heat-recovery strategies that cut operating costs — and proactive maintenance that keeps the environment constant and predictable for the crop.

  • Rigorous temperature, humidity and CO₂ management
  • Heat recovery integrated into the mechanical design
  • Proactive maintenance for environment stability
  • Engineered for predictable yields and lower operating energy

How we work

Four steps from survey to commissioned line

  1. Survey

Plant walk with a senior engineer — process loads, piping, contaminants, schedule. Free.

  2. Design

Engineering proposal with cost, shutdown plan, and grant eligibility.

  3. Build

Execution sequenced around your production calendar — minimal line interruption.

  4. Commission

Performance handover with monitoring tied to the operating data you already track.

Common questions

What plant managers ask first

  • How do you handle process cooling for a plant that runs 24/7?

We design process cooling around the plant's real operating envelope — not generic load templates. Systems are sized for continuous duty, paired with intelligent, real-time monitoring controls that detect anomalies before they become production interruptions. For sites that already run 24/7, install and tie-in work is sequenced around scheduled shutdowns or a phased migration plan so cooling capacity never drops below operating need.

  • Do you work in food and pharma plant environments?

Yes. Food processing and pharmaceutical manufacturing are core industrial sub-sectors for Kolostat. Our technicians and engineers hold the CMMTQ and RBQ certifications required to deploy mechanical systems adapted to the strict constraints of these factories — and our preventive maintenance practice explicitly covers pharmaceutical and food clients alongside commercial, institutional and data-centre sites.

  • Can you minimize plant shutdown time during a retrofit?

Yes — minimizing line shutdown is part of the engagement. Because we run engineering, fabrication, install and controls in-house, we sequence invasive work around your production calendar: prefab off site, swing-shift install, phased tie-ins, and temporary services where needed. Our integrated team is the reason design-build is the delivery model for plants that cannot afford a long mechanical shutdown.

  • Do you do waste heat recovery for industrial processes?

Yes. Industrial waste heat is one of the largest unused energy resources in a plant. We take every opportunity to recover excess heat from mechanical and process systems — tempering fresh air, heating domestic water, even snow-melting in winter — and where feasible we route process heat to adjacent buildings on the same site. Recovery scope is sized as part of the engineering proposal, with grant eligibility quantified up front.

  • What kind of piping work do you self-perform on industrial sites?

Custom installation of hot water, chilled water, steam, gas and glycol networks — tailored to the industrial sector and pressure class of the project. Our piping practice covers the full mechanical scope from refrigeration to tinsmithing, with an award-winning track record on energy-efficient industrial systems. Two of the senior project managers in our org chart lead the piping practice directly.

  • Which grants apply to industrial HVAC and decarbonization projects?

ÉcoPerformance is the primary lever for industrial sites operating in Quebec — up to 75% of eligible project cost when the work reduces GHG emissions. Énergir, Hydro-Québec and federal NRCan programs stack on top where applicable. Kolostat has secured roughly $50M in grants for clients in recent years, and we manage the full path from analysis filing to post-implementation reporting.
