Our History

Started in 1927 with 2 employees and a 200 square foot sales office, Kolostat has evolved into a state of the art corporation with roughly 115 employees. We have come a long way from our humble roots selling space heaters and coal fed boilers; nevertheless, we remain committed to the same basic principle of quality service.

In 1947, Kolostat began installing air conditioning systems and in the 1970s we ventured into the "design-build" market. The 1980's saw the introduction of digital design to the HVAC industry as we perfected our construction techniques for high tech installations, hospitals, and clean rooms. In 1997, Kolostat opened a permanent facility in Toronto in response to the growing Ontario market and in 1999 our Quebec division was welcomed into the LINC® network. With the turn of the millennium, Kolostat expanded its business overseas and began to develop an in-house department specializing in the ever-expanding domain of digital control installations and service. In recent years, we have been certified as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) professionals by the Canadian Green Building Council as well as Hydro-Quebec "partnering professionals" in the Empower program.

This commitment to innovation is even captured in our name. After eliminating the need to manually operate "coal oil" space heaters through the integration of a thermostat, founder Samuel S. Segal coined the name Kolostat as a combination of the words "coal," "oil," and "stat." While the company has evolved over generations, we still strive to remain at the forefront of client satisfaction through research and education.
